Altoona volleyball’s Anna Batrus receives AMCC Defensive Player of the Week Award

For the fifth time this season, Penn State Altoona libero Anna Batrus, of Altoona, was selected as the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week in women’s volleyball, the league office announced on Monday, Oct. 23.

NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. — For the fifth time this season, Penn State Altoona libero Anna Batrus, of Altoona, was selected as the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference’s (AMCC) Defensive Player of the Week in women’s volleyball, the league office announced on Monday, Oct. 23.

Batrus led Penn State Altoona in digs last week, when the Lions posted 3-0 victories over AMCC opponents Carlow University and Pitt-Bradford.

Batrus totaled a team-high 17 digs in Tuesday night’s home win against Carlow, then posted 16 digs in Saturday afternoon’s victory at Pitt-Bradford. She finished her week with 33 digs, averaging 5.5 digs per set.

Through 19 matches this season, Batrus ranks second in the AMCC in digs per set (5.47) and fourth in total digs (361).

Penn State Altoona women’s volleyball is 10-9 overall, including a 5-0 record in the AMCC. The Lions’ next match is on the road Wednesday, Oct. 25, when the team travels to nearby Cresson to take on conference rival Mount Aloysius College at 7 p.m.
